10 QUESTIONS WITH WE ARE HANDSOME
Jeremy and Katinka Somers, the husband-and-wife designers behind Australian swimwear brand We Are Handsome, visited the Maldives for an exclusive photoshoot of their newest collaboration with W: a mystical jellyfish bathing suit inspired by the glowing properties of W’s exclusive island escapes in Asia Pacific including W Koh Samui, W Bali – Seminyak, W Maldives, and the soon to come W Goa.
We caught up with the couple on their travel must-haves, their personal style and some insider tips on the fashion trends that are about to take off.
Their personal style:
Katinka: Relaxed and functional with a hint of tomboy. I love clean lines translated through well shaped garments and natural fibers.
Jeremy: Designer Dad: very plain and 30 something designer like – a little nerdy.
Their favorite pieces of clothing as kids:
Katinka: Dungarees and a cotton T-shirt.
Jeremy: I had a black jacket with red flames on it. Hot.
And now:
Katinka: Nothing beats a moto leather jacket, a well-fitting pair of jeans, a crisp white T-Shirt and cool sneakers.
Jeremy: I wish I still had that flame jacket! I do have a cherished red checkered shirt that is for special occasions only.
Where we can find them on a Friday night:
Katinka: With our friends, either at home or out at dinner.
If you’re going to buy them a drink, it should be:
Katinka: Hendrick’s G&T or an Aperol Spritz.
Jeremy: A bespoke, small batch gin and tonic.
A song they have stuck in their heads:
Katinka: Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself.” It’s just so catchy!
Jeremy: There’s some awful song about champagne showers… gah!
Favorite city for shopping:
Katinka: Paris!
Jeremy: Tokyo
Three packing essentials:
Katinka: My sketchpad, Aesop travel kit & a bit of knowledge of the local language.
Jeremy: Earplugs, headphones, clean socks.
Their style icons:
Katinka: Margaret Zhang, every day!
Jeremy: Tom Haverford.
An Insider Tip on what fashion trends or labels to look out for:
Katinka: I adore Dion Lee – he has mastered the art of structured and well thought out pieces and Sarah & Sebastian for jewelry.
Jeremy: Watch out for tech in fashion, more than just wearables, but in t-shirts, active wear and almost everything you can think of – tech is about to take over how we look at fashion.
