W Bogota Goes Gold

In Focus W Bogota Goes Gold

All that glitters may not be gold, but at W Bogota in Colombia, the gilded interior design is nothing but pure. Inspired by El Dorado, the legend of a lost golden city, the designers behind the hotel tell a story in the details. Combining the history of a vibrant country with contemporary cultural symbols, the hotel interior brings the design elements of the bustling capital inside.

We talked to Ted Jacobs, W Design Leader, about the secrets behind the hotel’s design elements to get an inside perspective on the best art and design spots to see during your stay.

“One of the inspirations for design at W Bogota was the story of El Dorado, or the search for the land of gold. One key aspect of the story focuses on the Muisca king who was covered from head to toe in gold dust by his followers. He was then pushed out on a royal raft on to Lake Guatavita in Colombia. We took that insight and developed an iconic ‘raft-like’ bed in each of the W Bogota’s guest rooms. While guests certainly aren’t aware of it, each is treated like royalty.”
