Austin City Limits: Insider Guide

Music Festival Austin City Limits: Insider Guide

Fall may be around the corner but it’s still festival season in Texas, with the Austin City Limits music festival keeping it hot the weekends of September 30 – October 2 and October 7 – 9. With an extra lit lineup featuring acts by Kendrick Lamar, Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, Mumford & Sons and so many more, it’s the festival to close out the season, and the ultimate city to explore beyond the fairgrounds.

Need a guide to the best places to shop, eat, party and relax in and around ACL? W Austin Insider Donna Savage has your guide to the perfect festival weekend – from outfit prep to must-attend after parties to a life saving post-festival hangover cure.

Festival Prep

Make sure you’re set for your weekend with some help from the locals.

Luxe Apothetique

The Domain, 11501 Century Oaks Terrace

Preparation is key when planning your ACL weekend. I recommend hitting up Luxe Apothetique located in the 2nd street shopping district to find your perfect festival outfit. Prepare yourself for Bohemian influenced dresses and must-have festival trends including choker necklaces and funky sunglasses.

Don’t miss you favorite acts at the festival – download the official 2016 ACL mobile app to create your own custom schedule for the fest including which stage you’ll need to be at. It will also update you on schedule changes, fun giveaways, and emergency information. The most popular acts go on late but don’t miss some amazing emerging artists earlier in the day including local Austin synth-soul vocal group Keeper.

Bring plenty of sunscreen (don’t let the cooler mornings fool you, it gets hot!) and a refillable water bottle (there are water filling stations). One thing you’ll have to bring is a flag to identify your group – the more creative the better!

At the fest

Move, groove, and eat all weekend long.

Take advantage of the free shuttle that picks up on the corner of 4th & Guadalupe at Republic Square Park (2 blocks from W Austin) and drops you off at the festival entrance. It runs from 11am-10pm. Parking will be very limited, plus you’ll want to enjoy a Deep Eddy grapefruit cocktail while you’re there.

Austin is known for our legendary food trucks and an abundance of great dining options. The dining options at ACL this year do not disappoint. A few of my favorite local spots that will be there are Bananarchy, Micklethwait Craft Meats, & Tamale Addiction.

You can’t miss the fresh juices from Juiceland. They offer a special juice exclusively for festivals only called “Fun Punch”. Mix it with a shot of Deep Eddy from the bar and you have a perfect ACL cocktail.

The best places to retox and detox after ACL.

Keep the party going at one of the Official 2016 ACL Late Night Shows at some of the best music venues around Austin. The venues will host ACL late night parties throughout both weekends that you you definitely can’t miss! I’m looking forward to Oh Wonder at The Parish for my weekend two after-party destination.

Three days of nonstop action is going to have you completely worn out. Grab a breakfast taco and a Topo Chico (Austin’s go to hangover cure) from Papalote which is conveniently located in the same neighborhood as Zilker Park.
If that doesn’t do the trick, schedule an appointment with Hydrelief for an IV Hangover Infusion. They are a mobile service who can treat you in your home or hotel room. I recommend the Professional Hangover Infusion which includes a Super B Booster Shot.
